The worst part of canoe camping all depends on ones position and how to deal with the circumstances at hand. These might be some examples that you may encounter; daily rains and no chance to dry out, not being able to find the exact portage, getting lost and back tracking to get your bearings, windy days making it difficult to paddle, pesky mosquitoes and black flies, or maybe the unrelenting black bear in camp.

Yes, these are some tough challenges but rest assured they are part of the whole image and understanding of canoeing in the wilderness. Tackle each situation head on that comes your way. Therefore, providing the necessary survival skills required in everyday life.

Then what are the best of canoe camping? First, tantalizing smells of cooking over a portable stove, the mystifying call of a nearby loon, or the spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Next, the morning dew upon the tent, the lurking fog on the lake as you break camp, a moose and calf arrive at waters edge. How about the mysterious Native American pictographs telling stories of long ago, the busy beaver building a new home, or fast running water heard from a portage walking to the next lake. One of the top experiences, in my mind, is the incredible night skies of northern lights and star gazing.

Whatever the challenges that the wilderness may own take the bad with the good and roll with it. The best part is being with family or friends bonding in an environment away from busy schedules. Sharing fabulous outdoors exploration by camping, cooking, hiking, fishing, swimming and just relaxing are things stamped in your memories forever.

The savannah of the Amboseli National Park spreads across the Kenyan/Tanzanian border, about 240km south east of Nairobi. At just 392 square kilometres, it’s one of the smaller National Parks in Kenya. This can definitely be an advantage. It is famous for being one of the best places in Africa to see free-range herds of elephants up close in their natural habitat, and the Observation Hill at the south-east end of the Park gives spectacular views of the entire area. The swamp which lies at the base of the Observation Hill is also a great place to see elephants, as well as hippos and buffaloes, congregating to cool down in the mud and water.

Amboseli allows for myriad photo opportunities for the professional and amateur photographer alike. Imagine showing your friends and family a photo you took of Mount Kilimanjaro at dusk – that’s better than any postcard, surely? If you were planning on staying there, the Amboseli Serena Lodge offers uninterrupted views of the vast plains, with Kilimanjaro in the near distance.

One phenomenon of Amboseli you probably couldn’t capture on camera, however, is the mirages. They’re produced in the shimmering heat which rises from a vast, dried-up lake bed lying in the north-west of the park, and with a group of weary wildebeest sloping across the other side of the bed and the heat of the African sun beating down on your back, it really is an experience which can’t be reproduced.

Aside from the wildlife, Amboseli is one of the best places in Kenya to encounter the nomadic Masai people, who have occupied this land for centuries. Renowned for their fearlessness in battle and daring in fighting animals, these proud people rely on the grazing in these plains, and so must be attuned completely to their environment. Hastily throwing up huts made from poles and mud, the Masai abandon their temporary dwellings when the grazing is done and move to wherever the herds can feed. Amboseli is scattered with such dwellings, both occupied and abandoned.

The quality of your winter camping gear is very important and in some case critical. You need to be absolutely sure that it will withstand the temperature variations as well as the extreme conditions you may encounter during your camping excursions. The fact is, nobody goes on a camping trip expecting to be caught by extreme weather conditions or fall down an icy embankment and break an arm or a leg, but these things happens, so you need to be prepared for any potential situation if you want to survive.

On top of that if you would have to carry every piece of winter camping gear you might possibly need for every possible situation, you would need a truck, not a backpack. What you need to focus on is bringing the least amount of winter camping gear you need to survive any emergency situation. You won’t bring with you crutches or boards in case you break a leg, instead think about carrying heavy-duty tape that you could use combined with sticks that you can pick up on the ground. This simple trick will do the same as crutches without the excess of baggage.

We don’t usually fell thirsty during the winter but your winter camping gear must absolutely include an item to purify water. Some campers use iodine drops or tablet to that effect, you also need to filter the water. Then comes the eating part, most campers bring some dehydrated pouches which are very tasty, but they get old after a couple of days. Always try to have a couple of simple recipes for cooking over an open fire with food items to cook is always something you should consider having in your winter camping gear.

If you are going for a long camping trip you should always plan on a mean to relieve yourself. Also your winter camping gear should also contain hygiene items to make sure you remain healthy during your excursion. Inexperienced campers are often not aware of that, but maintaining your cleanliness is just as important as when you are at home. To that effect you should also plan on having some waterless sanitizing solution so you can wash your hands for time to time. Always make sure you remain healthy and comfortable during your camping trip.

Many people enjoy camping trips and these can often provide a great opportunity to spend time as a family. They allow you all to relax together and have fun. This is a chance to forget about the stresses and worries that you may associate with your everyday life.

Think about how you like to approach a camping holiday. Do you simply gather together a few things, stick them in the back of your car and head off in the general direction of your intended destination? This approach certainly can work in some situations, but it’s more difficult if you are travelling with children. A lack of planning can cause real problems. It will often mean that you have relatively little idea of what to expect when you arrive at a campsite. You may not know what activities will be available to the family. This can be even more of a problem if weather conditions are not as good as hoped.

As many of us know, a camping holiday can turn into a bit of a nightmare if it is spent in wet weather, surrounded by bored children. This helps to explain why it is so important to plan a family camping trip in advance. Don’t leave things to chance. You need to think carefully about what you want to get out of your holiday. Think about the activities that you and the rest of the family really enjoy. These should be the focus of your planning. If you aim to create a trip that is filled with fun then you won’t go far wrong.

Always have a range of activities planned. Some should certainly be suitable to the days when the weather is not so good. You can make use of camping equipment to avoid some problems that are associated with campsites. You might, for example, consider taking along your own portable shower or camping toilet. Such devices are a good example of how you can look to avoid poor campsite facilities. It doesn’t require an enormous amount of thought to buy such camping accessories and to pack them in the car. But it does require a little advance planning.

You’ll find that such planning pays dividends when it comes to family camping holidays. Think about your trips in advance and you’ll be able to ensure that you get the most out of them. You’ll be creating a great family holiday experience.

When people think of outdoor camping, they typically imagine summer vacations: warm days, clear starry nights, nature in full-bloom. But few campers think about camping in the winter season. However, like summer camping, winter camping is also pleasurable if you know how to prepare suitably for winter.

One advantage of winter camping is that you don’t have as much group – children are back in school, and the cold climate keeps the crowds away. The strange beauty of winter is another draw: imagine motionless silhouettes of bare tree branches, refreshingly cold and crisp air, a light dusting of recently fallen snow. And if the landscape doesn’t entice you, well, know that winter camping charges are as cheap as they come.

To make winter camping more fun you will need to make sure you are able to stay warm. To stay warm while camping in the winter you will want to bring a warm coat, thermal underwear, and wool socks and gloves. It is also a good idea to bring a stocking hat and hand warmers in your camping gear. Inside your tent you can set up a kerosene heater in the middle far away from anything that could ignite. There are also many other types of camping heaters that your camping retailer will be able to tell you about. Sleeping bags for your camping trip are rated for temperature so make sure you bring a sleeping bag that is rated for the temperatures you will experience on your camping adventures.

When you first get up in the morning you may want to pull your clothing into your sleeping bag in order to warm them just a bit before putting them on. Most tents for camping are well ventilated and do not hold in heat for very long. To make your tent hold in the heat a bit longer, you may wish to throw an extra tarp over it and fasten it down with tent pegs designed for camping.

You will find that fewer people end up camping in the winter, so you will most likely find your favorite camping location not only available but also very peaceful and quiet! So if you like camping in peace and quiet with not a lot of other camping enthusiasts coming out to your favorite spots, then choosing to set up your camping area in the winter will work perfect for you. Camping retailers will often have special deals in the slower winter months, so waiting to buy your camping gear until you are ready to go camping will not be a problem for you. So go out this winter and every winter and enjoy the peaceful bliss of nature by camping.

Anyone who has been on a camping trip knows that there is nothing better than standing around a warm campfire on a brisk morning with northern winds blowing hard in your face. The feeling of warming your hands and then slowly the rest of your body reminds you that you’re still alive! It almost gives you the feeling of what it must have been like living in the wilderness many centuries ago. But before you can enjoy the warm comfort of your own campfire, you need to know exactly how to build one. Here is a easy way to build your very first campfire in 3 simple steps.

1. Create a Teepee. First make a small pile of fire kindling in the center of your pit. Kindling is anything small and dry such as pine needles, and tiny twigs. Then around and above your kindling pile, lean small sticks against each other in an Indian TeePee shape. Light the kindling, and once it starts burning, it should easily catch the TeePee twigs on fire too. Then you simply keep adding wood!

2. Create a Log Cabin. To make a log cabin campfire, you again start with a small pile of kindling in the middle of your firepit. Then you lay out twigs and sticks in a square shape around the kindling pile. With a log cabin style campfire, you’ll need to make sure you’re laying your cabin sticks close enough to the kindling for them to light. Once you have small “walls” for your cabin built up several inches, light the kindling. As that catches on, it should also light the twigs and sticks from your “cabin”.

3. Make a Wagon Wheel. With a wagon wheel campfire, you’re again starting out with a small pile of kindling in the center of your fire pit. Then you lay your twigs and sticks across the top, intersecting each other in a way that makes the wood look like the spokes on a wagon wheel. After the wood catches, you’ll want to move the longer pieces of your “wheel” in closer to the center so they can burn full.

So there you have it. Three easy ways to build a great campfire! Now that you know the simple ways to do this, you’ll enjoy your next family camping, hiking or trekking trip all the more.

Choosing an overnight summer camp for your child, teen or other children deserves a great deal of consideration and attention to even the smallest of details. There are summer camps that are specifically geared towards teen age children. The teen summer camps are set up differently than the other types of summer camps. Why you may ask? Well teen summer camps focus on things that are important to teens like growing up and learning about real life and gaining a sense of independence.

The teen age kids want to experience being out on their own and being an adult but appreciate the safe and controlled environment that teen summer camps offer. This is also a plus for the parents. Many teens that attend teen summer camps find that they are not as grown up as they thought they were. The teens sometimes experience trouble being away from home though that is all they talk about doing when they are home. The teen summer camps also take the child from their normal environment and force them to adapt and adjust to a new place that is highly different than what they are used to. The summer camps for teens also force the children to meet new types of people from walks of life they have never thought of. This allows the teen child to learn about different cultures and see that there is more to life than what they know from home.

Teen summer camps can allow teens to do things that their family does not normally do with them and in some cases cannot afford to let them try. Water skiing and horseback riding are two of the top activities that they do at teen summer camps that most children are not exposed to due to the specialized and expensive equipment needed. These also tend to be the teenagers favorite activities to do at teen summer camps around the world.

When considering what summer camp to send your teen to be sure to look into the teen summer camps in your area. Bring the teen into the decision and let them assist in the decision. They will not only enjoy the chance to pick their own summer camp but will appreciate you treating them as more of an adult which is the point of the teen summer camps anyway. Nothing is worse than a teenage child that feels like a baby because you refused to send them to a teen summer camp but instead sent them to a regular summer camp where they are truly treated as a child instead of the young adult they are.

Camping with the family is one of those memory manufacturing actives that everybody in the family can anticipate. The guarantee of fresh air, untouched spaces, and activities such as hiking makes family camping fun for all members. Camping isn’t about where you go but what’s important is hanging out with the family and being out in nature.depending on the kind of camping some will have tents, others will have trailers or RVs but they are missing out on having the best family camping tent.

Tents come in various sizes depending on the number of folks that it can hold for sleeping. You have got to be certain to not only think about what quantity of people are sleeping in the tent but also consider what sort of space their gear and area size should be.As an example, if your family has five folks, you need to look at an eight person tent to give each member a tiny space for their things. You can get a tent in 2 or 3 person sizes and on up. The issues in family camping that could arise are when the tent is ripped up and you can sleep with bugs and make the rain your worst enemy.

But these days tents are a lot stronger than when you went camping as a kid. When you’re out tent shopping make sure that you check to see if you like the tent first. Take a look to see if the tent has double seam stitching.Take a look at the grommets, do they seem like they are reinforced?Take a look at the poles on the tent are they robust looking, or is the mesh material thick or thin looking. Take in all these quality factors, does the tent look like it can hold a handful of folks without a problem.

Tents these days come in a variety of shapes. Here’s a look at the well known tent shapes. Some tents come in what’s called an A frame construction. They have both sides raised and the back and front side are flat. This tent makes an A because the sides are angled up to the top.

The best tent for a family is probably the dome tent because of its shape. A family looking for security and best stability will select a dome tent. They have more floor space without a pole in the middle. These tents can get bigger with extra rooms or privacy areas and occasionally individual rooms. A dome tent is simple to line up, to maintain cleanliness and pack up at the end of the trip.

Sometimes when making a family decision, you should bring them with you to get their opinions when you are ready to buy one. It’s helpful to hear what they suspect about the tent since they are also going to be making use of it on the trip. Even when you are on a restricted budget, be certain to look at all your camp tent options in your range that meets your requirements.

When you are looking, you want to be certain that the quality family time on the camping trip isn’t compromised by settling for a less than perfect tent. The quality time your spending on the camp site should not ever be compromised by getting a less than good tent for your family. You can also expand your perfect family tent search by looking on different camping web sites.

Camping is a wonderful way to get away from the rat race of everyday life in the ‘civilized’ world and just relax and enjoy the solitude of the natural world. Folks who like to go camping are known as campers. Camping describes a whole list of different activities. Hardcore survivalist type campers will set off with little more than the clothes on their backs and the shoes on their feet, whereas ‘campers’ who prefer the use of RVs arrive at a site equipped with all the creature comforts of civilization. Camping may be the primary activity, but many campers also add other activities, such as hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, etc.

Some people take vacations in remote places with cabins and other modern facilities but this is not actually camping. The terms camping, also known as camping out, is sometimes applied to those who live outdoors because they have too or have chosen too, or for people waiting overnight in queues to get tickets for a concert or some other very popular event. Some people also refer to real camping as roughing it.

One style of roughing it type camping is known as Backpacking, which is a mobile variety of tent camping. Backpackers usually have lightweight equipment that can be carried for long distances by foot in a backpack designed specifically for this type of camping. These folks take long hikes across the land and will set up camp at remote or very rural areas. Backpacking equipment may cost a bit more than that for car camping, but the costs are still far less than using a trailer or RV. Backpacking campsites cost very little or nothing at all if you are far enough out in the wilderness.

Going canoing with the intent of camping is similar to backpacking, but uses canoes to get to the campground or site instead of walking. A lot more supplies can be carried in a canoe than in a backpack. Canoe camping is one of the more popular types of camping. One form camping is combined with cycling. The bicycle is used to carry the camping gear and as the basic means of transportation. This allows the camper or campers to cover greater distances than backpacking although there is less area for storage.
